My friend Ali came over yesterday with her father-in-law's doppler. It's good to have a friend who's a nurse! I hadn't heard the baby's heartbeat since a nine week ultrasound, at twelve weeks we couldn't get it. So, I was looking forward to that!
I pretty much always think that the baby is not going to be living, I suppose because my mom and some friends have had experiences where they didn't know they miscarried, but found out when they couldn't find the heartbeat.
Well, last night after dinner, I laid down on the bed with half of the kids watching and Ali found the heartbeat right away and it sounded great. Lily especially loved it. She keeps telling me that she wants to be a mom when she grows up and that she wants to have as many children as the Lord provides (which is not something we really talk about around here.) I was really surprised when she said that the other day.
She said it just like that: I want to have as many children as God.... provides. She was searching for the word she was trying to say. I told her, well, it could be two or it could be twenty. She is the most interested in this pregnancy and constantly praying for me and the baby.
I'm glad to have a little supporter to cheer me on and lift me up. And I was so glad to hear that baby. It turned out to be the highlight of the week.

i love hearing the baby's heartbeat. not much sounds sweeter than that. catherine and lily can grow up and be mommys together.
so sweet! kind of funny- isn't lily your delicate girl? ella is my delicate flower and she is the one who says she wants to have lots of babies :) (and "marry a pastor because pastors should have lots of babies"- no, we never taught her that- don't know where it came from)
I heard my 8th baby's heart beat today too! What indescribable joy!
yes, i think it's funny that my most delicate girl is gearing up for the most strenuous thing in life!
God shows His strength through weakness?
Brooke, we are expecting this summer too. I have been anxiously awaiting my 12 week appointment- getting to see the baby and here the heart beat and know we've made it past the point were I miscarried last spring. I had my appointment yesterday and nearly cried when I ran into a friend in the lobby and got to play a recording of the heart beat for her!
